South Yorkshire Mining Disasters Volume II concentrates on the 20th century, mainly from the 1900s to the 1970s, and covers 26 separate disasters.

It does not cover the countless individual deaths that occurred in that time because technically a disaster usually involves 10 fatalities at one time, although he has included the 1978 Bentley disaster when an underground paddy train was derailed, killing several men.

Brian, aged 62, a retired college lecturer, is a prolific local history writer and this is his 30th book.
